I am a Rasmuson Postdoctoral Scholar in Economics at the University of Alaska Anchorage and an Early Career Faculty Fellow in the University of Alaska Arctic Leadership Initiative. My research studies how institutional rules, from military service policy and draft deferments to property rights in fisheries, shape work.
I earned my PhD in economics at American University in May 2025. I am a former Dissertation Fellow at the Economic History Association and the NBER's Study Group on Gender in the Economy. At American University, I taught Social Problems in Historical Context.
Teaching students how to digitize historical data has always been a mechanism to bring them into the research process. With advances in AI, I have chosen to teach supervision skills to my students rather than replace them.
